Umbrella..Again and again..

Finally,i managed to hang all my umbrellas in the studio before the presentation day,with the help from a few friends..Thank u guys!




The middle one is the main umbrella where there's a stop button on the handler and the rest are for the rains,stream,waterfall and waves.

Audio Speaker..

I've tried connecting the mini jack to the audio speaker using a splitter,but the sound coming out from the speaker was not loud enough for my installation..Even with 8 audio speakers,the sound volume and the sound quality are still the same.

So i decided to just use my speaker.I took out the covers and just took the 2 audio speakers and soldered my own wires on them.And now,i can adjust the sound volume with that speakers.Awesome!

Dinner with dear classmates last night in the studio! :D

Stayed in the studio until 1am last night to finish up everything,without the air-conditioner,i got a few hours free sauna session..

*Now I used two keyboards for the hacking process because some buttons from the first keyboard that i've hacked did not worked after i put some glue gun on it..I just don't know why..*

Stick Together..

In the studio just now,i was figuring and trying how to stick my five umbrellas together..Kinda confused a lil bit..So instead of making them stick together for real,i was just using masking tape to see how the position gonna be for each umbrella before i hang them up..

Changes on actionscript..

During crit 2,when i was explaining about my progress on my project to Mr.Hafiz,he did some changes to my actionscript..So now,i can play all sounds at one time but using different button..And Mr.Hafiz also add a stop button..Whenever users want to play the sound,just click any button that they want,either 1,2,3,or 4 buttons at one time,and to stop the sound just click the stop button..

Ohh Ohh Under My Umbrella..

Finally, i found the transparent umbrella..I've Google about that for a few weeks..But it's kinda small,but then it's okay,i'm still gonna use it..It looks like an electronic umbrella with some wires around the handler..

Bought wires & buttons for my installation.

Randomly hang some beadxels around the umbrella! :D

To stick the keyboard part that has been hacked before to the umbrella,i just use selefon tape and masking tape..Haven't soldering that part yet because i'm still in the stage of testing my installation..

#Testing 1

So i did few testing on this actionscript thingy,i managed to change the audio and the key codes to my own chosen key..I got this actionscript with the help from hafizadt,and i did a few changes to it..

This is the original script..(i add a sound at the bottom & change the script a lil bit)

I change the linkage name in that script (the one that i highlight).

That's the audio file that i edit before exporting it in Flash (the one that i highlight).

The sound track name and the linkage name.

Number 82 represents the "r" key on your keyboard.

#Sound editing 1

I've been editing a few sound of waves using Sound Forge 10 (trial version)..Just playing around with the software..It's much better after the editing process.

For waves 1, i've reduced the noise and enhance the sound.

Again and again..

So again,i went to Batu Buruk Beach,Kuala Terengganu during the evening,went there alone..This time,i try to record the sound of waves at a few different spot..I was there around 5.30pm-7pm..And during that time,i was holding a recorder and wearing a headphone..People around me were looking at me like i was an alien coming from other planet..They might think that what am i doing,what's the thing that i was holding..For almost 2 hours standing by the seaside,a tourist (a Chinese woman) passing by and asked me,am i recording the sound of wave,and i said yes..At least i can smile a little bit because there's a person actually knew what am i doing at that time.. :)

Actually i've recorded these sound of rain last semester,but i forgot where i save the files..So i just discover where i actually save them in my laptop,silly me! :">

These sound was recorded at MMU Cyberjaya hostel (hb3),during the evening..I can't remember the date,so lazy to check..hehee..

I went to some beaches in my hometown which is Kuala Terengganu this evening..I managed to record a few sound of waves,but because of the strong winds,there's a lot of noise in that sound..I'll upload the sound here later..Here are the pictures taken at those beaches this evening..

Finalize Proposal

Research Topic: Water Therapy

Theme: Identity and sensors

Background: It is an interactive sound installation. Sounds will be produced when users click on the buttons provided on the umbrella's handle. So users can choose which sound that they want to hear first, so on and so forth. There will be 4 buttons representing the sound of water (waves, waterfall, rain and stream).

Problem Identification: This project can be categorized under water therapy treatment (some kind of meditation) to help people have balance in their life.

Aim and Objectives: This interactive sound installation is like some kind of water meditation (water therapy). People can feel so relaxing, calm, peace and harmony when hearing the sound of rain, waterfall, waves and stream. Water meditation can reduce mental chatter and promote relaxation.

Facts about water:
- Water cleanses our wounds; washes away our sins, tears bring us release and etc.
- Water washes away our negative thoughts and emotions and restores our state of peacefulness.
- Spiritual belief (baptism and holy waters).
- Central component of some religious.
- Buddhist value: - water symbolizes purity, clarity, and calmness, and reminds us to cleanse our minds and attain the state of purity.

Motivation: I want to let people experiencing water therapy for at least once in their lifetime. Not so many people know the fact that sound coming from certain water sources can be classified as water therapy.

Ideation and Concept: Sounds will be recorded earlier, and when users choose and click any buttons provided, they will hear a sound (for each button), which is the sound of water using the speaker and earphone provided.

Keyboard hacking

I learn how to hack a keyboard and make it as a button (or few buttons) after class,and i think its not that hard to hack a keyboard..With the help from Hafizadt,know i know how to hack a keyboard..Heheheee..And Farah help me opening the screws on the back side of the keyboard because i don't have a screwdriver! :D

No screwdriver??You can use your cutter! :D

And i keep on building my dome in the studio until 5pm..It's nice to do my work inside the studio because the weather is so hot outside,and it's just so comfortable staying in the studio with the air-conditioner..Heeheee..

#Dome 2

For the 3rd time,i'm still trying to build my DIY dome..I read again the requirements and instructions then i decided to cut the sticks into 3 different lengths..I just thought that the person in the web use ready-made different sizes of sticks,but i was wrong..Haven't thought about that at the first place..I'm just blur..

After cutting some sticks,i put them in 3 different bottles and labeled the bottles with S (6 1/2 inches),M (7 1/2 inches) and L (7 3/4 inches)..And since i've wasted some masking tape for the previous unstable dome,i bought a new one..



This time,i really follow the instructions shown in this website..DIY DOME.

I get stuck for a few hours until i figure out the right composition to create a stable dome.So here are the pictures of my unfinished stable dome.. :D







Will continue with this later.And maybe i'll try to use straws after this,just wanna try.

** I think i'll end up using a real umbrella.. T____T
